Welcome to abstractmedia.net
Each year over 500 students across the Claremont Colleges enroll in nearly forty courses offered by the Scripps Art faculty in art theory, book arts, ceramics, digital art, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, and video. Courses are designed to integrate theory and practice, enabling students to express their knowledge through research and diverse creative forms that can foster and enhance social discourse. The Art major emphasizes hands-on learning and critical thinking. We support student research and production in traditional art to new media.
The Scripps Senior Art Exhibition is a cornerstone of the studio art major’s Senior Seminar. Beginning with a written thesis and visual art project in the fall semester, seniors work with their faculty mentors and fellow students over the spring semester to expand on their fall projects and produce the final exhibition.
This year’s Art Senior Seminar was taught by Professor Kasper Kovitz. For more info on the Scripps Art Department, click here.
Media Studies is an intercollegiate major offered jointly by Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, Pomona and Scripps Colleges, together forming Intercollegiate Media Studies (IMS). IMS at the Claremont Colleges is one of the first undergraduate programs in the United States to combine theory, history, and practice, integrating critical studies and media production. The projects are organized by track: Critical Studies, Digital/Electronic and Film/Video.
This year’s seminar was co-taught by Professors Jennifer Friedlander (Pomona College), Rachel Mayeri (Harvey Mudd College), Ruti Talmor (Pitzer College) and Kim-Trang Tran (Scripps College). For more info on IMS, click here.
Congratulations Seniors!
